Guided tour: The Coin Cabinet
Welcome to the treasure trove that is the Museum's coin cabinet! Here we find everything from exclusive silver from the Viking age, to huge copper coins from the legendary Loshult Coup of 1676. Coins are not only a means of payment, but they also offer a fascinating glimpse into the politics, culture and social conditions of an era. Why were coins cut into pieces during the Viking Age? Why are they found in the pockets of buried plague victims? And why in the world did Sweden mint copper coins that weighed a whopping 20 kg!?
The tour is open and included in the admission fee to the museum.
